Name: Covenant Maker/Promise Keeper
Prayer and Meditation:
“Oh, give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! … For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.” Psalm 105:1 to 4 and 42.
A careful study of Scripture uncovers thousands of promises, covenants and prophecies. These heavenly treasures are our most precious earthly assets and it is a JOY to discover and pray these promises regularly. When we intentionally investigate these promises, in both the context of the surrounding verses and the Bible in its entirety, God's love for us is revealed in radiant clarity, and the plans for His people are clearly demonstrated.
Our LORD is not only the Covenant Maker he is also the Promise Keeper. Psalm 105 ends with a tribute to the LORD’s faithfulness to remember his holy promise to Abraham. Similarly, at the end of his life, Joshua in his final charge to the Israelites states: “…you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the LORD your God promised concerning you.” Joshua 23:14. In recognition and gratitude we have a responsibility to fully commit with humble hearts to serve the LORD. See Joshua 24:14 and 15.
God’s unfailing promises are given to bring us to prayer. Our prayers ought to be fueled with His promises both in asking and receiving them. The LORD promises to answer our godly prayers.
Lord, thank you for your steadfast love and faithfulness as both the Covenant Maker and Promise Keeper. This day, we do choose to serve you with all our heart, delighting in who you are. Thank you that we can rest with full assurance in all your promises as set out in Scripture … with all the breath with in us we praise and thank you for your promise of SALVATION … your greatest promise.
