Matthew 28: 16-20 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The Great Commission is not just a command to go—it is an invitation to abide. Jesus’ final words to His disciples were not merely instructions for their mission but a promise of His abiding presence: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). Before sending them into the world, He first called them to Himself. Their journey began by meeting Him on the mountain, a place of worship and revelation. Even in their doubts, Jesus remained present, reassuring them that their mission would not be carried out alone. Likewise, our calling to make disciples is not just about activity; it is about remaining in Him—drawing strength from His authority, wisdom from His Word, and courage from His nearness.
To abide in Christ is to abide in His mission. The call to make disciples is not a task we perform in our own strength but an outflow of a life deeply rooted in Him. As we go, teach, and baptize, we do so in constant dependence on His presence. When we abide in Him, our ministry bears fruit, our words carry His power, and our steps are led by His Spirit. The Great Commission is not simply a charge to fulfill; it is a relationship to walk in. Today, let us embrace the privilege of abiding in Christ—worshiping Him, trusting Him, and moving forward with confidence, knowing that He goes with us every step of the way.
