A Call to Prayer: 40 Day Commitment and a Praise Gift for You!

PBS invites you to participate in a community-wide prayer commitment, followed by a public sharing of praise! 

Starting MARCH 1st, PBS, along with ANYONE who wants to participate, will be praying for 40 days - each day will be focused on a particular verse (40 verses in total). The suggestion is that you set aside a time and a place each day, "at home, on your knees, with the Lord." 

The prayer commitment begins on Ash Wednesday and runs through Palm Sunday - what powerful bookends to this commitment!! 

After Resurrection Day will be a continuation of the commitment, beginning MAY 1st. This time focused on praising God for the fulfillment and enrichment that comes through prayer. 

We invite you to email your personal praise reports (a testimonial of your experience through this process, or a reported answer to prayer) to promisebiblestudy@gmail.com. Your praise report will be posted on the website, so we can join you in praise! Testifying helps strengthen others and encourages the Body of Christ to remain firm in faith and hope. It bears witness to the amazing power of prayer.

Finally, before you begin, it is vital to keep in mind that as a follower of Christ in general, but particularly when undertaking a mission such as fervent, deliberate prayer, we are inherently entering a spiritual battlefield. Below are the verses to pray each day.

Days 1-10 are focused on your personal relationship with Christ

Days 11-20 are for those with whom you have direct and regular contact (your "sphere of influence")

Days 21-30 are directed toward the Church

Days 31-40 are extended out to the Nations

Literally pray these verses, and see where the Holy Spirit guides you within them:

 

Days 1 to 10 – Personal Relationship with Christ

-        Luke 11:1 to 6/Matthew 6:9-13.  Lord teach us to pray.

-        Psalm 139:23 and 24.  Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

-        I John 1:9.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

-        Proverbs 3:5 and 6.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

-        Ephesians 1:17-23 & 3:14-21.  Personalize these verses between you and the Lord.

-        Isaiah 26:3.  You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.

-        John 14:23.  If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and my Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

-        Philippians 4:12.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

-        Isaiah 12:2.  Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation.

-        James 1:5.  If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Days 11 to 20 – Sphere of Influence

-        John 17:15My prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one.

-        I Corinthians Chapter 13 …the greatest of these is love.

-         Philippians 1:6…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

-        Romans 12:12.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

-        Matthew 18:18.  Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

-        Colossians Chapter 3...therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

-        Isaiah 55:6 and 7.  Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts.

-        Matthew 5:16.  Let your light so shine before men, that they see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

-        Philippians 2: 12-15...work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.  Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world...

-        Hebrews 12: 7-15 …for the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it…strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.  See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled...

Days 21 to 30 – Church

-        Isaiah 62:6 and 7.  On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent, you who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

-        John 13:35.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

-        Acts 20:28.  Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers – be shepherds of the church of God which He bought with His own blood.

-        Isaiah 40:31.  Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not get tired; they will walk and not become weary.

-        Matthew 16:18 …and I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.

-        Matthew 18:20.  For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.

-        I Corinthians 10:16 and 17.  communion

-        I John 1:7 … if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

-        Ephesians 4: 11-12.  And He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…

-        Philippians 2: 1-3 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Days 31 to 40 – Our Nation /the Nations

-        II Chronicles 7:14.  If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.

-        Psalm 46:10. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

-        Ephesians 6:10 to 19…praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I my open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel…

-        Romans 10:14 and 15.  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?  And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?  And how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written:  “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel or peace?   Who bring glad tiding of good things!”

-        Acts 2:44 to 47…so continuing daily in one accord…praising God and having favor with all the people.  And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

-        Jeremiah 29:7…and seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for its peace you will have.

-        John 3: 16-17. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

-        Obadiah 11:15.  For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head.

-        Psalm 33:12.  Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His heritage!

-        I Thessalonians 5:16 to 18.  Pray without ceasing.
