The Beatitudes Put to Music

I can't recall what initially inspired me to write a song on the Beatitudes, but what I do remember was realizing this famous passage, spoken by Christ himself, needed no formatting to fit to music: it was already written in lyrical verse! The melody came instantly; it all but sang itself.

I am sure it would have stated in scripture if Christ had indeed sung these blessings to the crowd gathered before him, but the way in which it is presented by Matthew suggests Christ delivered this revelation in a manner akin to reading poetry.

Please enjoy my song and listening to the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed are those who have ears to hear...

THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10
